Car Strikes Bicyclist Saturday
Victim hit as driver turned down Elm Street in Unionville
A bicyclist was taken to a local hospital after being hit by a car at the intersection of Main and Elm Street Saturday.
According to police, Anthony Russo, 67, of 30 Buckboard Lane in Bristol, was riding a bicycle east on Route 4 Saturday around 3:30 p.m. and Yan Xaio, 46, of 20 Buckingham Road, Avon, was driving parallel in her car. Xaio pulled ahead of Russo and turned down Elm Street, striking Russo, police said.
Russo was reportedly conscious when emergency personnel arrived, but was unable to speak because of his injuries. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Though she believed she had the right of way, Xaio was given an infraction for failing to yield to a pedestrian, police said.

PEOPLE!!!! Learn the rules of the road and stop cutting bicyclists off. This person thought they had the right-of-way? So plow over the guy and ask questions later I guess. Do you realize that a person on a bike has a right to more of the road than what's between the white line and the curb? Please... everybody... relax, slow down, pay attention, and give the person on the bike some room.
