FOCUS Fundraiser “Wet Paint” a Great Success

Silent and live art auction benefits education group

On Friday night the community came out in full force for “Wet Paint,” a silent and live art auction to benefit the FOCUS Fund.

The crowd feasted on a buffet provided by Apricot’s, Cugino’s, Flaggstead Smokehouse, Matthew’s Restaurant, Caffeine Café, Yume Japanese Steakhouse, Taylor Made Cakes and more from Chef Paul Obarowski and students from Teen Battle Chef, and enjoyed live music by MAJK Jazz.

Adding to the evening, Farmington resident Suzy Whaley, PGA Professional and FOCUS Honorary Chair, was emcee.

“We had a full house and were very pleased that so many attended to support FOCUS. We sold 240 tickets,” reported Ginny Mulpeter, FOCUS chairman.

“We had nearly 150 pieces of original art from many talented artists, most available through silent auction. The item with the highest bid during the live auction was Garth Meehan's watercolor, Block Island Passage, which sold for $700.00.”

Artist and illustrator Robert Noreika did a watercolor demonstration. The finished painting was then auctioned.

“I think this is a fantastic event," Noreika said. "I am grateful to be able to participate.”

Proceeds from the auction will benefit The FOCUS Fund to support a wide variety of educational programs and chem-free events for students in grades 5 -12.

Farmington High School Principal Dr. Timothy Breslin spoke of his appreciation for the fantastic support of the community.

“I didn’t expect this many people,” he said of the crowd that filled the Farmington Community Center. “This group is really a part of our lifeblood. They are always available and do so much good for the students.”

Town Council Chair Mike Clark agreed. “FOCUS is another example of the volunteer spirit in Farmington and serves a tremendous purpose supporting our youth.”

Anyone who was unable to attend but would like to make a contribution can send one to:  The FOCUS Fund, PO Box 531, Unionville, CT 06085.
