Mike Galluzzo Retiring as Asst. Superintendent of Schools

Assistant Superintendent Michael Galluzzo will retire from his post at the Farmington Public Schools effective June 30, 2012, to be replaced by Kim Wynne, current director of curriculum, the district announced Tuesday.

Galluzzo has served 32 years in the district as a teacher, assistant principal, principal of East Farms School and assistant superintendent.

“Mike Galluzzo will be greatly missed,” Superintendent Kathleen Greider said in a statement.  “As a long-time teacher and administrator in Farmington, he has shaped the school district’s improvement work over the past three decades.  His impact on the students of Farmington will be felt for many years to come.  We are all so fortunate to have worked with such a highly expert and caring educator.  The entire Farmington school district community wishes Mike Galluzzo the very best in his retirement.”

Galluzzo said the schools have become a second family to him.

“I am deeply indebted to the many outstanding colleagues with whom I have had the privilege of working during my 32 years with the Farmington Schools. It has been a privilege to have had a work life that touched the growth and development of thousands of young people and to have established partnerships and associations with their families. The Farmington Schools are my second family,” he said.

To fill the assistant superintendent role, the Board of Education appointed Kimberly Wynne, effective July 1, 2012. Wynne currently oversees the district’s curriculum and has served as a teacher and administrator in Farmington since 1985.

Greider called her an exceptional leader.

“Ms. Wynne is an exceptional leader who brings significant expertise in curriculum development, instructional best practices and school improvement to the position of Assistant Superintendent.  Her deep understanding of the Farmington school district, coupled with her innovative approach to improvement will accelerate our improvement efforts so that all students achieve academic and personal excellence, exhibit persistent effort and live as resourceful, inquiring and contributing global citizens.” 

Ms. Wynne states, “This is an exciting time of opportunity and challenge in education, and I am proud to serve the parents, students, and faculty of the Farmington school community. Together we will realize our ambitious goal of high levels of academic achievement, leadership, and global citizenship for every Farmington student.”

A search for a new Director of Curriculum will begin immediately.  

Facts about Mr. Galluzzo:

• Mr. Galluzzo came to Farmington in 1976
• He was appointed assistant principal at IAR in 1981
• He became principal at East Farms in 1987
• Galluzzo was named a National Principal of the Year in 2004
• He was invited to participate in the Connecticut Shandong Education Leadership Delegation
• East Farms was awarded the U.S. Dept. of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence of award in 1996-97 while he was principal
