Nutmeg Community Television Dedicates New Facility

Public invited to take advantage of studio.

Residents, business sponsors and government officials celebrated the official opening of the new Nutmeg Community Television facility in Farmington on Sept. 29. The station moved from a rented facility in Plainville earlier this year.

Nutmeg is the non-profit community access television station that manages public, educational and government channels and facilities as a public service to Avon, Berlin, Bristol, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, New Britain and Plainville through Channels 5, 95, 96 and 99.

“We’ve doubled our space and what we can offer the public and reduced costs significantly” said Executive Director, Joanie McCauley.  She thanked New England Bank and Senior Vice President, Byron Treado, as well as other business sponsors and the Nutmeg Board of Directors for their help purchasing and outfitting the building.

Visitors were amazed at the size of the new facility. It has 8,346 square feet of space which includes two studios, a prop room, edit suites, a master control room and offices.

The event was planned to allow the public to tour the facility, meet the staff  and learn about the station's services, said McCauley. “This is your free community TV station with 3 channels to serve the public. It’s your voice, your choice.”

As she cut the ribbon officially dedicating the building, McCauley said “This building is dedicated to those from the past and future, from those who supported the purchase and renovation of this building as a furtherance of an alternative system of television, created by ordinary people, to fulfill social potential, promote free speech and to acknowledge the pride and commitment that is access television, for the people by the people.”

McCauley invites residents to become involved with the station by signing up for an orientation seminar. Volunteers can learn to direct, film and edit programs.

NutmegTV is located at 9 Eastview Drive, Farmington, CT 06032. For more information call the station at 860.321.7405 or email: nutmegtv@nutmegtv.org.
