Nutmeg Orchid Society's May Meeting

Nutmeg State Orchid Society Meeting, Monday, May 7th, 7-9 pm.

Our speaker for May is Penny Mustafa, the “P” in A & P Orchids! Penny & her husband, Dr. “A”zhar Mustafa started growing orchids over 30 years ago. Her presentation is "Cattleya Highlight!"

Penny’s orchid bio starts in Connecticut, 1984, at Logee's. She states: “I was looking for a fragrant olive plant but I found my first orchid plant, a yellow phalaenopsis. Just short of a year, after visiting Logees, construction of A & P Orchids began in Swansea, Massachusetts. Our collection building began when we purchased the plants of Bob Jones - Mt. Madonna Orchids in Watsonville, California. The orchids at A & P Orchids, like the old A&P grocery store, truly do span the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific. From there we went on to create our own hybrids, specializing in paphs, phals, cattleyas, cymbidiums, and odonts. We are grateful for the recognition and awards our hybrids have received. Presently we are reworking our hybridizing program, concentrating on paphs, phals and catts. Over the years we have supplied the local cut flower and plant market with our creations. At this time I have taken over the cattleya house which includes odont intergeneric hybrids as well as Australian dendrobiums.

Location: Camp Happy Hill, 87 W. Avon Rd, Unionville.

Public is Invited. FREE! Refreshments. 860-673-1155.

Our meetings are open to the public.   We are a non profit organization.
