Farmington High School Student wins First Place in Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition

Yehoon Kang, a Farmington High School student wins First Place in Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra  Young Artist Competition.  He is a member of the FHS Symphony Orchestra as a violinist and the Symphonic Band as a saxophonist.  He studies violin privately with Ms. Brunilda Myftaraj, Director of the Virtusori Music Academy at Tunxis Community College..

The Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition took place April 26, 2014 at Trinity Church in Torrington. Yehoon 'Eric" Kang, a sophomore at Farmington High School won first prize with a performance of the first movement of Mozart's fourth violin concerto and soprano Micaela Bottari, a senior at Torrington High School, won second prize with a performance of arias by Purcell and Sullivan. The two winners will be awarded cash prizes at the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra's May 17, 2014 Family Concert. The Saturday, May 17 concert will be held at the Avon Senior Center. Both winners will perform for approximately 1,500 third graders at the orchestra's Educational Children's Concerts to be held at Lewis Mills High School Tuesday morning, May 20. The Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition is sponsored by the Oles Family Charitable Foundation.

 

Marshall Brown, conductor of the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra designed the new Young Artist Competition to highlight talented high school students in the area.
