FARMINGTON (June 3, 2014) – The Rotary Club of Farmington has presented awards to 11 sixth graders and eight fifth graders at West Woods Upper Elementary School on Judson Lane, recognizing them as the winners of the Farmington Rotary Club’s annual literary contest.

Each of the students wrote essays that were judged by their teachers on subjects ranging from the need to keep smiling, to animal abuse, to what it’s like to be an 11-year old amputee.

“This contest can be the basis for these students’ futures,” said Mike Schloss, chair of the Rotary Club’s contest. “I was first introduced to Rotary through this literary contest when my daughter own daughter was one of the winners years ago. She is still using what she learned through that effort as an English teacher.”
