FHS Musicians perform at Providence College

On Friday, November 8th, the Farmington High School Women's Ensemble, directed by Christen Hernandez, participated in an Invitational Choral Festival at Providence College.  The young women participated in a session at the Smith Center for Performing arts with 6 other high schools from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Each ensemble performed music with a master class by college choral directors,  Dr. Jose Rivera (from North Carolina) and Dr. Andrew Clark (Harvard University).  Schools were evaluated given written feedback from the clinicians on their choral technique.  Additionally students listened to the other high school choirs while the college clinicians worked with them.

The FHS Women's Ensemble feedback from the clinicians was very positive, and the students enjoyed the opportunity to perform in a performance facility that is acoustically pleasing.  Dr. Rivera feedback included references to the FHS WE sound as "velvet" and "just beautiful".  Dr. Clark congratulated the ensemble on their "compelling performances" of excellent choral music with "refined singing with impressive musical skills".

The Providence College choirs performed at the end of the festival for their high school counterparts.

FHS graduates attending Providence College: Alexandra Moody (2013), a business major, and Sarah Gothers (2010), a senior music education major, perform in the Providence College choirs and were on site to host the Farmington High School students sharing their college experiences. The students benefitted from the professional evaluation of their work by college professors as well as the opportunity of connecting with the college.
