John Mastroianni, FHS Graduate selected for New England Intercollegiate Band

John Mastroianni, a graduate of Farmington High School last year has been selected to perform in the New England Intercollegiate Band.   Throughout John’s high school career, he was a member of the FHS Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Marching Band and elected Drum Major by his peers.  As a trumpet soloist, John was annually selected for the CT Northern Regional, CT All-State and MENC All-National bands and orchestras.  A leader in the school, John was the President of the FHS Student Council and captain of the Varsity Crew team.

 

As a mechanical engineering major at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, John is also very involved in the music department.  He is a member of the Stage Band and Concert Bands and recently the pep band.  He performs at Mechanics Hall regularly in programs such as “conversations in Jazz or the premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s “Gruppen” with the WPI Orchestra, Stage Band and the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra. Performances this spring will include “Peter and the Wolf” at Hanover Theatre, trumpet soloist of the selection “From the shores of the Mighty Pacific” accompanied by the WPI Concert Band.

John’s selection into the prestigious New England Intercollegiate Band leads to a culminating two day music festival with a concert at Gordon College on April 12. The concert program will include: “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger, Frank Ticheli’s “Rest” and, Ode to R.S.” by Chang Su Koh.  The conductor for the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Band is Andrew Trachsel of the Ohio University Music Department.
