Local Panera Bread Bakery-Cafes Raise $15,972 During First Half of 2013 For CT Sports Foundation And Its Efforts To Assist Cancer Patients

August 26, 2013 —Howley Bread Group, Ltd. announces that fourteen of its Panera Bread bakery-cafes in Connecticut, including Waterford, Lisbon, Groton, Foxwoods, Hartford, Manchester (2), Enfield, Canton, Glastonbury, Bristol, Newington, Farmington and Wethersfield, donated a total of $15,972.16 in the first half of 2013 to its Operation Dough-Nation® partner, the Connecticut Sports Foundation (CSF), based in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.  The check included all Operation Dough-Nation customer collections in the cafes, proceeds from the bakery-cafes’ Mother’s Day cookie promotion and a portion match from Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group. Taking this first half donation into account, Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group has now donated a total of $238,801 to CSF and its effort to assist cancer patients and their families since the partnership was formed in 2009.

The check was presented near Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Tigers minor league baseball team in Norwich, Connecticut who will be the host again for the 3rd Annual Panera Bread Spook-a-thon on Saturday, October 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  The family-fun pre-Halloween party encourages fundraising teams to dress up in costume and walk in masquerade or dance to the music of live bands all to benefit the Connecticut Sports Foundation.  In addition to the Haunted Clubhouse and batty cages, attendees will enjoy hay rides, a bouncy house, cookie decorating and trick-or-treating, as well as a pie eating and costume contests for prizes.  Bagels and pastries will be provided by Panera Bread and hot dogs and hamburgers will be available at lunchtime for a nominal charge.  For those interested in starting or joining a fundraising team or judging the contests, please visit the website at www.spookathonct.org.

The Connecticut Sports Foundation is a non-profit-IRS 501 (C)(3) corporation chartered by the State of Connecticut which raises funds to directly assist struggling cancer patients and their families with living expenses (rent, mortgage payments, food and utilities).
