Meeting the Mormons

On Tuesday evening (October 29, 2013) curious area residents filled the Farmington Library’s Community Room to learn about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (“LDS” or “Mormons”) and their new temple under construction on Farmington Ave. (Route 4).   The residents could read over twenty poster boards of factual information about the faith.  Then after a 30-minute presentation on “The Mormons Next Door,” local LDS leaders answered a wide range of questions about the temple and about the Church in general for an additional hour.   Upon learning that only 141 LDS temples exist worldwide (with 20+ more under construction), one resident summed up: “So this temple is a very big deal!”   When the temple is completed, sometime in 2015, the public will be invited to an Open House to tour it, inside and out.   In the meantime, if you missed the event, updates about the temple are posted regularly on http://mormontemples.org/hartford .
