Spring Allergies: Tips from Doctors Express Urgent Care in West Hartford

Spring is here. And so are spring allergies! Spring allergies affect over 35 million Americans each year. Allergy symptoms include itchy watery eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. These symptoms are an immune system response to pollen which enters a person’s system. When the body is allergic, the immune system thinks the pollen is a virus or bacteria. It responds with a reaction to try to get rid of the intruder. Pollen counts are important to allergy suffers because the higher the pollen count, the worse the allergies are.

It is likely that if you experience these symptoms yearly, you suffer from seasonal allergies. To be sure, your doctor or an allergist can perform a test. Skin tests can show exactly what you may be allergic to. To alleviate symptoms, there are multiple over the counter medications you can use. These medications are classified as antihistamines, decongestants, eye drops, or nasal sprays. Some medicines may be combination of these. If necessary, a doctor can prescribe a stronger medicine.
