Ana Maria Lizcano of North Branford and her fiance Kevin Williams of Burlington will get the dream wedding "they deserve," after Williams won the "Big D Big Day" radio contest.

By all accounts, the story of Kevin and Ana is much like any other: boy meets girl, falls in love, and wants to get married.

But in the case of Kevin Williams of Burlington and the “love of his life,” Ana Maria Lizcano of North Branford, the story features a touching twist.

Kevin and Ana grew up in close families and share similar memories of growing up listening to 102.9 DRC-FM with their parents.

Kevin writes that 102.9 DRC-FM symbolizes how “throughout our lives, Ana and I have continuously tuned into The Big D and have found comfort during our most difficult and happiest of times.”

A Promise

Three years ago, Ana’s mother was diagnosed with a very rare form of Leukemia.

And the family spent all their time and resources — including those set aside for Ana’s wedding — to get her the best care possible.

Sadly, Ana’s mother lost her battle to cancer on March 19, 2012

On the day that Ana’s mother passed, Kevin was able to see her one last time and make her a promise.

“I promise to take care of your daughter. I love her very much.”

Those were his last words to his future mother-in-law.

Wedding Of Their Dreams

And so, Kevin entered the "Big D Big Day" contest, calling on 102.9 DRC-FM to help him fulfill that promise — and give Ana the wedding she deserved.

And as their favorite radio station, DRC-FM has stepped forward to honor that request, creating the wedding of their dreams with a wedding and reception package valued at more than $29,000.

A Special Proposal

Kevin proposed to Ana at Apricots Restaurant and Pub in Farmington on March 13.

There, the the bride learned that 102.9 DRC-FM and its sponsors would be providing the couple with:

  • the engagement ring and wedding bands from Anderson Jewelers of East Hartford
  • a reception for 100 people at The Bond Ballroom in Hartford
  • wedding day dance lessons from Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Connecticut
  • tuxedo rentals from J.T. Ghamo of Hartford
  • reception flowers from Kim’s Flower Shop in Wethersfield
  • a custom wedding cake from Kim’s Cottage Confections in Durham
  • hair services from Contours Spa and Wellness in Bloomfield
  • makeup done by Academy Di Capelli in Wallingford

A video of the engagement surprise is shared above.

'Memories We Will Cherish for Life'

And what did Kevin write to win the radio station's wedding contest?

Kevin's carefully crafted words appear below:

"Ana and I share many of the values that The Big D represents: community, family, charity, hard work and good times. Ana and I want moments like I had with my parents driving to soccer. We want to turn back at a stop light and see our children eating Boston crème donuts singing along to The Big D. Memories passed down from our parents’ generation, to our generation, and to our children. Memories we will cherish for life.”
