Brace for a Messy Tuesday Morning Commute

With snow in the forecast, and possible heavy snow squalls (especially the farther north you get), it's going to feel a lot like winter on Tuesday.

It looks like it's time to break out the heavy winter coats, shovels and other winter essentials as the first storm of the season will hit early Tuesday morning.

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service, an arctic front will move into our area early on Nov. 12 and bring with it some snow. The snow could become heavy at times, the NWS states, and potentially come in the form of squalls.

"The timing of this precipitation is expected during the Tuesday morning commute," the NWS says. "Falling temperatures combined with briefly moderate to heavy snow squalls may result in a coating of snow accumulation."

"This may create some slippery travel along with poor visibility during the Tuesday morning commute," the weather service predicts.

The National Weather Service forecast for Farmington is as follows:

Rain showers before 5 a.m., then rain, possibly mixed with snow showers. Low around 30. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Snow showers likely, mainly before 10 a.m. Tuesday. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a steady temperature around 34. Northwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Along the shoreline, the precipitation is expected to be mostly rain, but conditions will still be slippery and some snow will be mixed in.
