DOT to Begin Bridge Replacement July 22

Construction will center around the intersection of Routes 167 and 4 by Sanford & Hawley.

The state Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin work replacing the bridge in front of Sanford & Hawley, beginning July 22.

The construction will be conducted similarly to the replacement of the Vincent DiPietro Memorial Bridge in Farmington center a few years ago, with traffic flowing during the day and any work that would close lanes being done at night, according to a press release from the town. Farmington Police will be on scene.

The construction is not expected to impact traffic flow during the day, except possibly in the next week as crews initially set up the site and when lanes are shifted to accommodate new phases of the project.

The project, which has been awaiting funding for years, will result in new turning radii from Route 4 onto Route 167 and repaving to match the new section of Route 4.

Construction is expected to take approximately 3 years to complete.
