Farmington Community Chest Takes Over Fuel Bank

Fuel Bank provides one-time emergency fuel assistance to Farmington residents.

The Farmington Community Chest has announced that it has taken over the management and administration of the Farmington Fuel Bank.  This fund had been maintained by Farmington Bank for many years.

The Farmington Fuel Bank provides one-time emergency fuel assistance to Farmington residents. Residents are qualified to receive fuel assistance by the Town of Farmington Social Services Department, directed by Nancy Parent. The Farmington Community Chest will administer the funds as directed by Town of Farmington Social Services Department. The Farmington Community Chest will not be accepting any direct applications for assistance. Often State of Connecticut funding for fuel assistance is difficult to obtain, funding may only be paid at certain times and for certain amounts. The Farmington Fuel Bank provides a bridge during these times to assist our residents.

The Farmington Fuel Bank has been in existence for many years, predominately funded by the Farmington Community Chest, however during these difficult economic times with more and more people in need the Farmington Community Chest may not be able to fulfill all the requests. Thus help is needed from all in our community. Civic organizations, churches, clubs, PTO’s, and individuals are encouraged to donate to this fund. The Farmington Fuel Bank funds are maintained separately from the Farmington Community Chest’s main account, which assists many other entities in town.

Donations and inquiries about the Farmington Fuel Bank may be directed to the Farmington Community Chest, PO Box 60, Farmington, CT  06034 or Farmington Community Chest president; Jennifer Hogan may be contacted via email at communitychestfarmington@gmail.com.

A fundraising event to benefit both the Farmington Fuel Bank and the Avon Fuel Bank was recently announced. The Memorial United Methodist Church located at 867 West Avon Road; Avon will hold a Pasta dinner on February 23 at 5:30pm.  In leiu of a charge for the dinner, freewill donations will be accepted.
