Farmington's Top Dogs

Visitors to the Town Hall voted for their favorite dogs, who gathered today for prizes and pictures.

The town has spoken, declaring Reno, Chester and Madison Farmington's top dogs. Pictures of the three were displayed at Town Hall, where visitors voted for their favorite Farmington dogs.

The winners gathered Friday afternoon for pictures and prizes during a very exciting meeting. Madison, voted No. 3, is an almost-2-year-old puggle — that's a cross between a pug and a beagle. She was thrilled to visit the Town Clerk's office, where admirers, treats and the other top dogs were waiting.

"She just loves to play with people," said her owner, Erin Komidar. Madison twisted in circles to watch the people passing in front of her.

"We'll just feed her treats to keep her happy," said Todd Jensen, Komidar's fiance.

Chester, 7, is a sweet yellow/champagne lab. He was voted No. 2 top dog. While more mature than Madison, he was also excited to be making new friends at Town Hall.

"He's so spoiled. He sleeps in bed with us," said Catherine A. Skaperda, who owns Chester with her son Derek. "But he deserves it. We get so much pleasure from him."

In a blue bandana complementing his beautiful black fur, Reno, a flat-coated retriever, sat patiently as Town Hall staff leaned out the door to have a look at him.

Town Clerk Paula Ray, who organizes the contest, brought the three together with their owners for a picture. Reno posed with owners Nancy and Derek Duffy as Madison jumped and twirled until everyone was ready.

"These are the best behaved dogs we've had in a long time," Ray said.

The annual contest comes at the end of June, when dog owners are required to renew their dogs' licenses.

"It's a fun way to remind people that June's the time to renew their dog license," she said.
