Jarrett's Castle in its Final Stages

Record-breaking sandcastle should be finished by week's end.

Despite days of rain, Ed Jarrett continues to sculpt the record-breaking sandcastle he and many Farmington Valley residents have been building for the past two months.

Much as a child would pack wet sand into a bucket, about 1,500 volunteers have helped pour 1.6 million pounds of sand into wooden forms, then pack it by walking over the sand. Jarrett began removing the forms May 9.

The 38 foot, 2 inch masterpiece is expected to be finished this Friday, with the celebratory reveal to be held May 21. Volunteers are invited to help Jarrett finish the castle in the final days and to participate in the May 21 celebration.
