Patch Pet Place: Have You Seen Missing Dog Zoey?

Avon family looks for missing silky terrier.

An Avon family is looking for its missing silky Yorkshire terrier, Zoey after she escaped Friday with her electric fence collar on.

Zoey, a year and a half old, is very friendly, according to Avon-Canton Animal Control Officer Beverly LaPlume. Owner Julie Miller posted a board on Avon Patch about her missing dog, seeking the public's help to find her.

The dog likely crossed Waterville Road (Route 10) from her neighborhood because she was spotted Saturday near Avon Self Storage on Old Farms Road and on the Avon Old Farms baseball fields Sunday, LaPlume said.

A homeowner saw Zoey on Scoville Road Monday after hearing her on the deck and tried to catch her, but she ran away. There was another sighting at Oakengates that night.

LaPlume said that Zoey is friendly, but very scared.

“Don’t approach her. Try to coax her into the house," LaPlume said. "Call animal control or the police department and let us know where your spotted her."

LaPlume said that if you're going to use food to lure her to safety, Zoey likes wet food, so she suggests chicken or hot dogs because they'll carry a strong scent.

A local group of dog lovers called Dog Gone Recovery that has formed to help find missing local pets has started a Facebook group called Find Zoey in Avon to organize search efforts for the missing dog.

If you think you've spotted Zoey, please call police dispatch at 860-409-4200 or Animal Control at 860-409-4205. You can also contact the owner at 860-716-3370 or 860-716-3369 if you find her.
