UPDATED: Politics Makes for Strange Bedfellows — and Valentines, Poems

Valentine's Day love Connecticut style — Democrats and Republicans share swipes.

The Connecticut Democrats Valentine's Day card to Connecticut Republicans.
The Connecticut Democrats Valentine's Day card to Connecticut Republicans.

Updated: 1:10 p.m.
Not to be outdone by their Democratic counterparts, the Connecticut Republicans have sent a little love toward Gov. Dannel Malloy and the party.

In a series of three Valentine's missives, the Republicans are waxing poetic.
With a smiling Malloy on the side of a card,, one poem reads:

"Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'll raise your taxes
And kill jobs too"

The poems are in response to the Democrats posting a Valentine's Day card on Greenwich Patch which took swipes at the four candidates for the gubernatorial nomination and two congressional candidates.

Original story: 11:36 a.m.
Connecticut Democrats are showing a little love on Valentine's Day...well, let's say a love for using the holiday to take a swipe at Connecticut Republicans.

In a post uploaded to Greenwich Patch, Democrats announced they released "special edition Valentine’s Day cards demonstrating how Connecticut Republicans may say "I’m Yours" to voters this Valentine's Day."

The card features a compilation of photos of the candidates seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination — Greenwich's Tom Foley, state Sen. Toni Boucher of Wilton, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and John McKinney, as well as congressional candidates Dan Debicella and Mark Greenberg.

In the post, Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo said, "For the past six months, we've heard nothing but doom and gloom rhetoric and pandering to the NRA and the Tea Party from Republicans."

In a jab to millionaire and former ambassador Foley, the card reads, "Can all my money buy your love, or at least your vote?"

Boughton was tweaked for his use of social media. "I love you almost as much as I love promoting myself on Twitter."

No word yet on what, if any, love the Republicans may be sending to the Dems. Requests for comment were left with the Connecticut Republican State Central Committee.

The only powers that be who are engaged in an outright assault to sabotage ............... are the House Majority and the Tea Party. The poster boys for stupidity. Obama is trying to turn this country around from the Bush devastations, and the House is negating every positive proposal which the President approves. So, "November, 2012 - "Unemployment is falling. The housing market is rebounding. Consumers are paying off their debts. And the big banks are healthy. The U.S. ECONOMY THAT EARNED President Barack Obama a second term LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE MESS THAT HE INHERITED FOUR YEARS AGO. Instead of shrinking and shedding jobs, the country is growing at an annual rate of 2 percent and businesses are handing out new paychecks at a monthly average of 157,000 so far this year." "The primary cause of the insurance premium rate hikes under ObamaCare is the requirement for insurers to cover high-risk consumers. Insurance companies can no longer deny Americans with pre-existing conditions and can't charge higher rates based on health status or gender. These factors, along with a few other required benefits, rights and protections (like the elimination of lifetime and annual dollar limits) have led to rate increases over the past few years. The good news is that many Americans can now get reduced premium rates and lower out-of-pocket costs by enrolling in a plan on their State's health insurance marketplace." "THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- JANUARY 2014 Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 113,000 in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment grew in construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, and mining."

Everyone IS welcome to their own delusions. However the Liberal delusion is killing us right now. Unfortunately most all the stats quoted by Bobbie are the result of cooked books. We are still being told the recession ended almost 5 years ago. GDP growth has been about 2% since. This is the most sluggish "recovery" of any since WWII. What we have is an extended recession. We need 4% growth to drive a real business expansion. We are told that unemployment is at 6.7%. Traditionally, full employment was considered anything under 5%. Tell me, does it really feel like we are 1.8% from full employment??? If they counted all those who left the workforce we're at an actual unemployment rate of 12%+ unfortunately. The entire stock market boom is fueled by the Fed's artificial easy money and the constant printing of $85 billion of the $100 billion per month the treasury borrows to finance trillions of deficits the past 5 years. This entire inflated bubble of an economy rides on top of a time bomb of $17+ trillion of debt which the U.S. budget cannot afford to carry once interest rates rise even a little. Now, Janet Yellen is shifting from trying to protect the banks with QE3 to tapering the money printing to protect the dollar from collapse on the international currency markets. President Obama has done nothing to get our financial house in order, and everything to build debt and increase the danger to our economy. Observing these plain facts plus dozens more is what drives average, non-delusional, oxygen-breathing Americans into the streets and into the political process to say ENOUGH. Listening to our ruling class and ignoring the perils created by them is truly a delusional exercise. Face the music - they're taking us for a ride and this will not end well for the majority of us.
Bobbie February 15, 2014 at 07:47 PM
Bob - and speaking about poster boys for the House Majority - you'll be glad to know you totally qualify. You have been hand-fed distractions by Republicans and the Koch Brothers to enable an onslaught on the President while bringing America to its battling brink. They are providing tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of educating and feeding our children and the unlawful enslavement of females by the House Majority deciding that they are better suited to decide the who, what, when and where of pregnancy and propagation. They are truly The Know Nothing Party. I am happily working towards that November Day when they find themselves jobless. Which they can then add to being clueless.

JWolf...Just to let you know — one of your comments has been flagged/deleted because of language that violated our rules of engagement. And while discussion is encouraged, I'll flag more if you violate the terms again. But I'm sure you won't.
Bobbie February 15, 2014 at 08:47 PM
JWolf - the Koch Bros were just an example. Of course, it's the wealthy from here and beyond who are buying up and out America. and since you do not know me, JW, you could not possibly be aware that I am my own person. I am an Independent - both in registration and mindset. My priorities are the health and education of children and females. To them I dedicate my being. There are plenty of people who can rage and disengage the multitude of problems which began prior to Obama - and will continue post-Obama. I'm moving along to a better world.

Roses are red Violets are blue What'll happen when the bills come due? Dannel will lie and bemoan It's the Republicans fault we need a loan Meanwhile it his hand caught in the till Giving our money away by the mill How much more can you afford To keep Dannel & Co on board ?

Barbara: I'm still looking to find out where the republican valentines were published.

Republicans and Democrats are both influenced by money: candidates need money to win, and so the 99% are sold out, with the 1% owning are representatives. 93% of the gains from the economic recovery of 2010 went to the top 1%. Democrats are now blue dog Democrats, who are a subsidiary like the Republicans of the Multinational Corporations that now not only have bought our government but also the media. Are you now better off than you were 5 years ago, 21 years ago? We witnessed the greatest transfer of wealth to the top 1% since from 1980 to the present. Husbands and wives now are forced to work two jobs, and still a third of all mortgages are under water. When we have real candidates like Ralph Nader, Jill Stein, Rocky Anderson, they lack the funds to buy air time to get their message out. Democrats and Republicans are both owned by Corporate America, the only difference being that Democrats are more liberal on social values. Look what happened to Patch since being bought out by AOL. Bain Capital deja vu.
Sean February 16, 2014 at 12:26 AM
Bobbie is the typical angry blame everyone liberal. One of the biggest causes of this mess is the borrowing and refusal to balance the budget. The Republicans under Bush had a $300-400B a year federal deficit. When Obama took office in 2009 with a Democrat controlled Congress, the deficits went to over $1T a year. When the Republicans gained back control of the House in 2010, they caved and caved and caved to the Democrats. All this borrowing to balance the books is causing all kinds of problems. The cost of borrowing goes up, which causes inflation due to all the importing we do. Other countries look at us as a risk to loan money to because neither political party can balance the budget. Obama has had 5 years to fix the mess he continues to blame Bush for. His prized legislation Obamacare has to be again delayed because it will never work. Unfortunately we have two Americas: the one we were founded on and the one with these liberals. They need us but we do not need them. They economically wreck everything they touch.
Bob MacGuffie February 16, 2014 at 08:45 AM
Bobbie, you refuse to respond to the fact set about our economy I laid out. You are ignoring and talking past me. Your points are boxing shadows. FYI I've been watching very closely for over 40 years as BOTH parties passed unconstitutional laws and taxed and spent our nation into bankruptcy. YES, the corporatists have purchased BOTH parties (simply check their campaign contributions) and they have gotten what they paid for - unfair advantage in the markets. The ruling class has ruined our great productive economy and driven it into BANKRUPTCY. They are only able to avoid admitting it because they print money at the Fed. The RECKONING is here Bobbie and we are the ones trying to alert you and our neighbors. It is a tragedy you will not recognize this until your dollar is depreciated to pennies................
Bobbie February 16, 2014 at 10:32 AM
The blame is justifiable. My anger is directed towards those who put children and females at the bottom of their non-priority list. Then, I get really pissed off. "The poverty rate increased from 11.3% in 2000 to 12.3% in 2006 after peaking at 12.7% in 2004.[121] By October 2008, due to increases in spending,[122] the national debt had risen to $11.3 trillion,[123] an increase of over 100% from 2000 when the debt was only $5.6 trillion.[124][125] Most debt was accumulated as a result of what became known as the "Bush tax cuts" and increased national security spending.[126] " "In November 2008, over 500,000 jobs were lost, which marked the largest loss of jobs in the United States in 34 years.[141] The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in the last four months of 2008, 1.9 million jobs were lost.[142] By the end of 2008, the U.S. had lost a total of 2.6 million jobs.[143" "Bush wiped out a $5.6 Trillion Surplus in two years and the national debt hit $10 Trillion on his watch. Remember how right-wingers screamed about that. No? That's because they didn't." So, don't come crying to me now.
C.S. February 16, 2014 at 11:19 AM
This is a joke, these idiots want to lead us? This sort of crap would not be tolerated in a grammar school electron so why is it tolerated in state and federal elections? This is the reason why we as a country are screwed because the is a WWE wrestling match with the taxpayers footing the bill while these people play around.
Bob MacGuffie February 16, 2014 at 12:17 PM
Bobbie - I read and understand your views expressed above. There was no room to pile on Bush - the Left was tearing him down daily - he was clearly part of the problem. You seem like a good intentioned soul. But sadly you can't distinguish "crying" from alerting. President Obama has enacted everything of substance he desired. His experiment has been run several times in the 20th century and ended in each case with societal destruction and much bloodshed. We are earnestly trying to avoid running the same experiment here in the U.S. in the 21st century. This discussion space really needs to be for people who at least accept the simple facts of our country's current economics. Since you refuse, at this point all I can do is include you in my prayers. Good luck with it all. Peace.
Lucy February 16, 2014 at 01:34 PM
I remember when jobs were abundant and people could afford to pay a mortgage, send their children to college, pay their medical insurance premiums, retire in dignity. Now FASTRAC is being negotiated behind closed doors. If passed, and it will be passed, it will send 30 to 40 million more jobs to Asia over your children's lifetime. Both parties are bought and paid for by Corporate America; and so is the press. Isn't MSNBC owned by GE? Big banks are not lending to small businesses. Why should they, when they borrow from our government at the Federal Funds rate of 0.25% and then buy T-Bills paying 3.50%: there's no risk. They are borrowing our money, and then lending it back to us with a profit of 3.25%. And Obamacare is essentially Romneycare: the insurance and pharmaceutical industries will make trillions. But the parties get away with it by distinguishing themselves on wedge issues, not economic issues. It's sad that Americans no longer vote their wallets and pocketbooks, but, alas, is there any real choice after all? Republicans and Democrats are both wholly owned subsidiaries of Corporate America.
Citizen Ruth February 16, 2014 at 03:02 PM
Do you remember in civics class the difference between a democracy and a totalitarian state, as Communist Russia was portrayed as having been? Don't we have a Corporate totalitarian state, buying our elected officials with the passage of Citizens United? Didn't the NDAA remove the right of habeous corpus for all Americans? Doesn't the government intend to pass PIPA and SOPA to curtail our access on the internet? Hasn't the NSA been listening to our telephone calls and reading our emails? Do we have an independent press any longer, since Mega Corporations now own the media? Wasn't even Patch acquired by AOL, and hasn't it been reported to have been sold, subsequent to what's been rumored to be like a Bain Capital acquisition? Haven't we been waging endless wars overseas, supporting the military-industrial complex? Isn't our own government selling our personal information to corporations? Democracy? Republic? Or Plutocracy? Say hello to the Corporate United States of America, folks!
Bobbie February 17, 2014 at 01:12 PM
My last comment. collective sigh. There have been doomsayers around for far more years than I have been on this earth - and that says much. This country will survive no matter what or who is attempting to put her down The greatest portion of the population are family oriented. Truly good people watching out for those who enter their sight line. There are still - and always will be - those who will never be up for sale. There are numerous believers with assorted ideas. So, if each group believes they know best - maybe - just, maybe - they will be of one commitment and eventually bypass the detours of division. My belief is in America - which is her humanity. Both in her current stance - and the probability of producing an even better nation. Don't bring the force from without. Work from within. We are Free and Formidable.
MAC February 18, 2014 at 01:17 AM
Bobbie, I agree with your belief in the American People, especially that “The greatest portion of the population are family oriented. Truly good people”… The greatest good—including for women and children—is done within the low-conflict natural family, which is the FOUNDATION of a productive and prosperous society. And that natural extended Family, and the social units closet to it, such as neighbors and churches, synagogues etc. are the best sources of help for the needy—instead of government, which WASTES 3/4 of what they have confiscated in their Failed “War on Poverty.”……. That Failed “War on Poverty” has expended over 16 TRILLIONS of $$$ in the past half century, with the poverty rate remaining the same! That is because the real goal is NOT to eliminate poverty, but to make permanent the ever bigger (and multiplying) government bureaucracies to administer the overlapping and redundant programs which incentivize DEPENDENCY upon government, turning all those dependents into permanent voters for the “Ruling Class” they look to for food, shelter, childcare, healthcare, etc.! ……………………………………..................................... Career politicians in BOTH parties have 1) incentivized the weakening/undermining of that natural Family of married man and woman and their children; AND 2) destroyed our Nation’s Prosperity and future economic Opportunity, by encouraging and racking up unimaginable DEBT, and squandering our Tax $$ on ‘Winners and Losers’ they pick among their “Corporate and Union Cronies” to further their own SELFISH and short-term career goals! If you believe that Obama and Dems are doing anything helpful and productive (not that most (R)s in congress currently are doing much better) to improve JOBS and Economic Opportunity for Americans, then you have been sadly duped by meaningless high-sounding rhetoric and phonied up statistics…….. This president (in office for over 5 yrs!) and congress need to be held accountable for their lousy results! Bobbie seems to blame only Republicans for the disastrous mistakes made by incompetent, unprincipled career politicians in D.C. (and Hartford, too, I’m guessing—from her silence on Gov. Annoy et al).
Bobbie February 18, 2014 at 11:38 AM
OK, so THIS will be my last comment to correct a misunderstanding. I only side with Obama because at this juncture in political settings he is attempting to provide a better life for my passions - children and females. He giveth and the House Majority are hell bent for election to taketh away. Your "And that natural extended Family, and the social units closet to it, such as neighbors and churches, synagogues etc. are the best sources of help for the needy—instead of government" statement is a bit utopian. Hopefully, that will someday be a prominent and permanent fixture in our lives. But, to keep the poorest of our citizens at the survival level, we require government intervention. What-should-be is on humanity's agenda. What-is-now is Life. Government provided food stamps - in its various formats - and school lunches for the mental and physical growth of ALL our children is an absolute necessity - along with Unemployment benefits. This currently is not the nation I desire. But until that time when we CAN change the World, it will have to do. If you are not dependent upon the government, Mac, Good for You - truly. There is a portion of our population who would not be here if it were not for the governmental handouts. So, go for it President Obama - 'til the day someone better is chosen Leader. and since I am in so many ways A Survivor, I'll not be holding my breath.
MAC February 19, 2014 at 07:18 PM
Bobbie, you have been sadly deceived to believe that Obama's empty words have done ANYTHING "to provide a better life for...children and females." He hasn't "given" them anything except higher Unemployment, food and energy costs, and higher health insurance premiums--with higher deductibles and co-pays, and LESS ACCESS to many of the Doctors and Provider groups!.... You are also so gullible to believe the lies that the House Majority are trying to take in any way harm women and children. Most of them are husbands and fathers, for Pete's sake! And most of the other GOP in congress are themselves women and mothers!......... As to your argument about "Utopian," it is PBO and the Dems who don't understand human nature--that there will always be "poor among us," and that making government the 'DADDY' will only incentivize laziness rather than personal responsibility................. You also don't seem to understand that they (AND career politicians of both parties) are all about CONTROL, not Freedom for people to make their own choices, and be rewarded according to their own efforts. "The New Road to Serfdom: A Letter to America," by Daniel Hannan, would be an excellent first book for you to read, to start understanding the difference between Freedom and big government, Socialist bureaucracies (Statism).
Bobbie February 19, 2014 at 07:48 PM
I have the greatest Freedom amongst our many nations - The Vote. Obviously, Mac, you have the Freedom to cry foul whenever your little heart desires. You know nothing about Obamacare if you don't realize the major health improvements provided for women and children. And the House Majority is their own best proof that they dwell within The House of Lies. Do not preach to me, Mac, about the attitude of the Reps. They are the bastards which I taught my sons not to be. If you do not respect me as a female, I will spend my existence disrespecting you right out of your privileged seat. Here is one Liberal vote negating one conservative agenda. Watching the sheep who blindly follow the House Herders who corral them into the loading chutes.
MAC February 20, 2014 at 02:11 AM
Bobbie, you just revealed yourself as being either very confused or a DECEIVER (also very naive), as 4 days ago you claimed to be "Independent mind[ed]." You just admitted to being a "Liberal" and have nothing but nasty insults and disdain for all Republicans and Conservatives (seemingly--are there exceptions?)................. I am sorry that you (seemingly, from your obvious bitterness and anger towards men, and your references to being a "survivor") have been victimized by men in your life. That victimization, however, does not justify your blanket condemnation as 'b2@$^$' of all Republicans, nor does it indicate at all the fair and balanced, or "Independent mindset" that you claim--let alone a healthy mental state........................................................................... Which reminds me of the joke "Liberalism is a mental disorder!".............................................................................. Since you think the JOB KILLING "ObamaDoesn'tCare" is such great stuff for women, how do your sons, if they are not married, but old enough to not be on mommy's policy, feel about having to pay higher premiums for themselves, to pay for women's free Birth Control, Abortions, AND Maternity coverage--as well as for the care of OLDER, SICKER Men as well as Women?!!
Bobbie February 20, 2014 at 09:15 AM
I am an Independent, Mac, and I choose to align myself with the Liberals as they currently represent my interests. I pay $24. extra a month for my insurance. That includes health and dental. My youngest son is 47. I have three Grand-Children. None have any complaints re their insurance premiums. I have been extremely fortunate that any male in my life has held high standards and do not mirror those currently occupying the House Majority. My sympathies are with you, Mac. You are probably a basically decent guy who has chosen to lie with the dogs. Fleas can be formidable.
MAC February 21, 2014 at 06:48 PM
Bobbie, you are deluded to think that you are truly "free" just because you can vote (though for congress your choice is often between two self-serving career politicians, who are both STATISTS). How well did "voting" work for Egyptians, who elected the dictatorial Morsi, who overruled their Constitution?................ We have a president now who also believes in ignoring OUR Constitution and the other two branches of government--whenever they disagree with his own personal agenda!............... Maybe you are foolishly content to allow government to dictate what kind of health insurance everyone MUST buy, how Doctors are allowed/must treat their patients, what kinds of cars/fuel you can buy, what you can do with the PROPERTY YOU OWN--not to mention collecting MASSIVE PERSONAL Data/all your phone calls, e-mails etc., etc. ad infinitum .................................................. Bobbie, did you hear about the latest Obama admin. "Liberal" travesties against our Bill of Rights? They are going to force all car makers to install tracking systems, so that Big Brother knows where everybody is, and where they go! Also, the FCC is going to illegally (against the 1st Amendment) go in to news sources and interrogate them, to assure that they are providing the "critical information"!!
Bobbie February 21, 2014 at 07:08 PM
Tracking systems for the young drivers. Good Idea. News coverage which tells it all in correct detail. Good Idea. We are both free to say whatever we want as long as it falls within moral and legal parameters. and I personally give President Obama my full support in reaching over and under and thru the House Majority to allow me to live my life as I so choose and not how the Old Boys Club decides what is relevant to their happiness. See you in November, Mac.
MAC February 22, 2014 at 03:16 AM
Bobbie, you are the very furthest thing from an “Independent Thinker.” An “Independent Thinker” is NOT ready to excuse every failure of Obama, and believe any old lie and Propaganda from the OFA e-mails, Huffpo, ‘media matters’ or any other such tool of the Socialists and Statists. Are those TOOLS of the O administration your “news” sources?.............................................................. Your comments here make you appear to be someone ready and eager to be RULED over, like a serf, as long as those Tyrants doing the Ruling and NSA spying on you and every other American have a (D) after their name. So sad—to believe their “Life of Julia” balderdash, that women are such mindless, helpless creatures and drones, who cannot manage to make decisions and be responsible for themselves (or even the “Pajama Boy” in the O’Care signup Propaganda)—but believe they can only live if Government is there at every turn to Provide for them like a Sugar Daddy........... ............................................................................................ If you were truly an “Independent Thinker,” Bobbie, you would realize that you have much more in common with the Tea Party, which started 5 years ago—when the formerly ‘silent majority’ took to the streets and the Capitol Mall in D.C., expressing their righteous indignation over the INSANE Borrowing and “Stimulus” Spending, and the infuriating BAILOUT of Banks and Wall St. etc!! ............................................................................................ Obama and the modern Dem party don't care about you or anyone else beyond themselves, sadly. They are only concerned to get your votes, so they can have permanent POWER, as the Ruling Class, in their Political Careers, with a monstrous sized Government and Bureaucracy that combines with their Corporate Cronies to stamp out all Constitutional (and God-given) Rights of We the People. (That is not to say that the 'establishment' career politicians who are nominally Republicans in congress are much better. Most of them are also self-serving and have abandoned Conservative Principles which this Nation was founded upon and the GOP was supposed to stand for.)
Bobbie February 22, 2014 at 11:17 AM
Fortunately, Mac, in my long life, I have yet to meet anyone as hypocritical and paranoid and subservient as you. I truly hope you have been cloned as it will make my personal and independent win so much more enjoyable.
MAC February 22, 2014 at 06:37 PM
Admit it Bobbie--you did not read most of what I wrote. I am "subservient" to NO one but God! Your postings make you appear to be the "hypocritical and paranoid and subservient" one, who takes your marching orders from any unprincipled, self-serving and mindless POL who speciously accuses others of the ridiculous and imaginary "war on women."............................................... And what the heck are you talking about as your "personal and independent win"? Are you running for office?
Bobbie February 22, 2014 at 10:14 PM
Since I do not speak idiotic, you will not be able to comprehend my statements. and I now can easily understand why you stand with the insanities of the House Majority. My time is much too precious to waste. Good bye, Mac.
MAC February 23, 2014 at 12:39 AM
Bobbie, you obviously WON'T read anything posted by someone who easily refutes the mindless Leftist balderdash--such as that Republicans are engaged in a "war on women" and want children, women and old people to die! Your WILLFUL BLINDNESS was just proven by your "idiotic" statement that I "stand with the insanities of the House Majority," which is an outright Lie!!! ....................... ............................................................................................ As I have stated more than once in this thread (and elsewhere), and again last night at the end of my post: "That is not to say that the 'establishment' career politicians who are nominally Republicans in congress are much better [than the Dems]. Most of them are also self-serving and have abandoned Conservative Principles which this Nation was founded upon and the GOP was supposed to stand for."............................................................ If you were actually interested in TRUTH, you would apologize for mistaken assumptions about me and at least make a joke like the late, great Gilda Radner—in her Rosanne Rosannadana character—“Oh——never mind!” Bobbie, I am almost as old as you and not at all who you ‘assume’ I am. (Remember what you do to yourself when you ‘assume.’)
Bobbie February 23, 2014 at 11:32 AM
Mac, you are the one making the assumptions. I know who and what you are. The ONLY correct statement which you have made thus far is "the late, great Gilda."
