On Tuesday, July 3, national best-selling author Darien Gee (also writing as Mia King) will be speaking at 7pm at the main library at 6 Monteith Drive in Farmington. Ms. Gee is a Miss Porter’s graduate and is coming all the way from Hawaii for this one-time event.
The topic of her talk is, "Women's Fiction: New Stories, New Writers." She will talk about the genre or "category" of women's fiction, and what is so appealing about novels that are considered women's fiction. Also, for those interested in novel writing or telling a story they've been carrying around with them, she will share her knowledge and expertise on how to get started in writing that novel.
Darien Gee is an author, wife, and mother of three. She’s a Libra Monkey, a chocoholic, and of late, an Amish Friendship Bread addict. A former California resident, Darien served on the board of the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library and ZYZZYVA, an award-winning literary journal. She’s an alum of Squaw Valley Community of Writers. Her novel, Friendship Bread, was released in 2011. About life and loss, friendship and community, food and family, Friendship Bread tells the uplifting story of what endures when even the unthinkable happens. Her next Avalon novel, Memory Keeping, will be published in 2012 by Ballantine Books.

Ms. Gee also writes under the name Mia King, whose books, The Sweet Life, Table Manners, and Good Things, have all made national best-seller lists.
