One of the three artists in the exhibit- Avis Turner, says "this is a wonderful opportunity to show my newest drawings. Matthew's is a lovely place. He is good to support the local arts scene by hosting exhibits."

Turner has a studio at the Farmington Valley Arts Center and shows her bronze sculptures at the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme.

In this exhibit Turner shows large graphite drawings of her imagined "Botanical Hybrids" along side of some small jewel-like egg tempera paintings.

“I continue to celebrate the fecundity of nature with these latest works, inspired by Michael Pollan’s, Botany of Desire and In Defense of Food.  These imaginary moth-orchids, seed-pods and hybrid creatures suppose a future where flowering plants and winged insects have adapted to global environmental pressures.

Through adaptive speciation and their already symbiotic relationships, new species evolve, and thrive due to their smart biological and evolutionary alliances.”

Turner, for many years has grown Phalaenopsis orchids in her studio window; taking special delight in having them bloom (so tropically) during New England February snow storms.
