Hill-Stead Museum Awarded Connecticut Humanities Council Grant

Grant of $7,000 will support the planning and preparation stages of the museum's upcoming 20th anniversary anthology of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival.

A press release from the Hill-Stead Museum:

is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Planning Grant from the Connecticut Humanities Council to underwrite the development of an anthology of poems selected from the first twenty years of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival.  The collection, entitled Sunken Garden Poetry, 1992-2011: A Poetry Anthology Celebrating the First Twenty Years of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival, will be published by Wesleyan University Press and available to the public at the festival’s opening celebration weekend in June.  The book will feature some of the most renowned poets in the country, as well as regional and student writers from the past twenty years, and extend the reach and reputation of one of Connecticut’s most important cultural events.

One of the largest humanities councils in the nation, the Connecticut Humanities Council (CHC) nurtures thoughtful exploration of history and literature along with the cultural benefits of both. CHC’s reading programs benefit Connecticut citizens of all ages by opening up the world of books to children, encouraging reading as a family activity and engaging adults in thought provoking book discussions. CHC granting programs support the work of museums, historical societies and other cultural organizations that bring the stories of Connecticut’s past to life. This year, CHC will create and fund hundreds of cultural experiences that enrich the lives of residents and visitors statewide.
