NY Artist Showcased at Tunxis Gallery

The public is invited to “Weatherproof” an exhibition of works by Nancy Manter in the Wallace Barnes and Barbara Hackman Franklin Art Gallery at in Farmington through March 8. The artist will give a talk on her process and how she derives her images on Feb. 14 from 3-3:45 p.m. in Room 6-127, followed by an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. in the Barnes-Franklin Gallery. Refreshments will be served. 

Approximately 25 photographs and paintings are on view, based on the elements of weather, the environment and landscape.

“A chaotic interior world seems reflected in erratic weather patterns and phenomena like snow and ice, and my paintings often begin as drawings conceived in nature during its more liminal moments: dew burning into day, ice succumbing to water,” said Manter. 

She has exhibited her work internationally in solo and group exhibitions, and has been the recipient of numerous art fellowships and grants. In addition, Manter’s works are held in dozens of public collections throughout the world, among them the British Museum (London), the Guggenheim Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art. She holds an M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and resides in Brooklyn, NY.
