Spots Available for Stanley-Whitman Charity Golf Tournament 2011

Fundraiser supports rich programs that allow visitors to learn by doing.

invites area golfers to its 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the programs of Stanley-Whitman House.

The event will be held May 20 at Tunxis Plantation Golf Club, located at 87 Town Farm Road.

"In this tight economy, with funding decreasing, we really need the support of our local community to maintain our children's educational programs. This is a great day of golf for a very good cause, and the money raised stays in the community and benefits our own children,” explained Jane Dalal, chairwoman of the Stanley-Whitman House Board of Directors.

Executive Director Lisa Johnson describes the special learning environment at Stanley-Whitman House: “Stanley-Whitman is a community center and museum that welcomes all to learn, engage in and enjoy Early American history. Our visitors learn by doing - flipping fritters on an open hearth, planting flax in a garden, trimming boards with a hand plane. Over 4,000 children, ages 3 through college, benefit from the museum’s content-rich and engaging programs. Many more families and schools would like to bring their children to the museum- but we need financial support to help them make it happen. This golf tournament helps us raise funds needed to create affordable programs for families and schools. We hope you can join us on May 20 for an afternoon of great golf and fabulous food to support this worthy cause.”
