“The Guys” to Honor Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

Farmington actress starring in show at Hole in the Wall Theater.

After Columbia Journalism Professor Anne Nelson helped a New York City fire captain write eulogies for eight of his men who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, she sat down and wrote "The Guys."

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Farmington resident Virginia Wolf wanted to bring the play to the Hole in the Wall Theater in New Britain.

The play was first performed in December 2001 at the Flea Theater in Tribeca starring Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver. Since 2001, “The Guys” has been performed in all 50 states as well as internationally. Although the play will be performed in 65 theaters across America in September, this will be the only Connecticut performance.

Wolf will appear as Joan, the writer. A voiceover artist, Wolf also hosts “Spotlight, Radio Reveling in the Arts and Entertainment” on 1420AM/1150 AM WMRD.

“I saw a performance of “The Guys” in 2006 and it stuck with me” Wolf said. “As a member of the Hole in the Wall Theater, I suggested we stage it. I could see myself as Joan and Steve Kelly, who I have performed with before, as Nick, the FDNY captain. It is a beautiful play; it is really a thank you to the first responders in many ways, and a tribute to the people who put their lives on the line every day. It is as much about our volunteer firefighters here in Farmington. While the play is about the events and aftermath of 9/11, it is also a universal story about healing. ”
