Theatre Guild of Simsbury Takes The 9 to 5 Challenge

The Theatre Guild of Simsbury presents '9 to 5: The Musical,' beginning Nov. 16.

This 2008 light-hearted musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, brings the original 1979 movie to life on the stage.

The plot is described as follows:
Violet, Judy and Doralee find themselves inadvertently holding their domineering and lecherous boss captive.  Attempts to keep the office unaware of his absence while implementing new procedures work well until he manages to escape. But just when it seems they have failed, fate steps in.

Directed by Doreen Cohn, Music Direction by Will Minton, Choreography by Terry Rowe, and Technical Direction by Ken Jones.

The musical presented its share of complications in its music, set and other details, Cohn said.

The show, for example, was created for Broadway stages with the capabilities of flying scenery automatic changes, she said. Some songs change locations up to four times within the one song.

"Figuring out how we could do this was quite a challenge," she said.

The producers also decided to add Orchestra Voices to supplement the onstage singers.

To see how it all came together check out one of the following performances.

Nov. 16, 22, 23 @ 8 pm
Nov. 17, 24 @ 2 pm
All performances are in the Simsbury High School Auditorium, 34 Farms Village Road, Simsbury.
