Consignment Store Will Cater to Teens and 'Young at Heart'

Teen Scene slated to open at former Max Pizza site on Route 44.

As a mother, Jackie Dowd knows how expensive it can be to outfit young people, especially when they get to the age when popular brand-name clothing is the thing to have.

With that in mind, Dowd is in the process of opening Teen Scene Consignments in the former Max Pizza Place on Route 44 in Canton.

While there are consignment stores in town, Dowd feels she will have enough of a niche in the immediate area for a store to cater to the young and “young at heart.”

She said the store will specialize in name-brand clothing, jewelry and accessories.

The store will be similar to Teenage Wasteland in Simsbury, Dowd said, and she hopes the two can complement each other.

Dowd hopes to begin buying clothing this week and is targeting Dec. 18 as an opening date.

“I’m excited about it,” Dowd said. “It’s a good area.”

Sounds like she's drafting off of the success of a competitor right down the road, Teenage Wasteland. I hardly think compliment is the right word. She even stole the by line they use. Teenage Wasteland uses "for young spirited." She is using "young minded". She is also seeking identical inventory. Nothing creative on this. She should be embarrassed. Even worse, to mention the competitor in her press release and imply they will be working together is just plain UNETHICAL..

I know the owner of Teenage Wasteland (TWC)...the creator of the "niche" that teen scene will be attempting to attract, and she is a very astute business woman. Instead of suggesting that teen scene would "compliment" TWC, the "copycat" business owner should have stated it like it is...she's opening a competing business! Reality is...any great business will have a competitor but to make it so similar and then suggest that there has been a conversation between these two owners how can the owner of teen scene suggest there is an amicable business relationship?!?!

Very tight game by two super teams and played at least 80% on the Southbury half with 10 goalRead More attempts by Farmington. Their goalie was incredible. Unfortunately, close to the game's end, Farmington ran out of gas and they lost by 1 goal. Congratulations to Southington's soccer team for beating a great Farmington team!!!!!!!
