Farmington Unemployment Higher Than Other Valley Towns

The rate in Farmington in December was the lowest all year, according to Connecticut Department of Labor numbers.

The state reported an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent for December and while Farmington falls below that, it's the highest of the Farmington Valley towns.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, Farmington's unemployment for December was 6.1 percent (785 people) of the town's 12,871-person labor force. The number is the lowest in a steady decline in the second half of 2012. Unemployment peaked in Farmington in July and August last year at 7.4 percent.

In Avon the percentage for December was 4.8, in Canton 5.1, in Simsbury 5.6, West Hartford 6.3 and Plainville 7.5.

State, National Unemployment Rate

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month dropped to 7.8 percent overall. Nationally, the unemployment rate is 7.6 percent.
