Harvard Genetic Expert Named as Scientific Director for JAX Genomic Medicine

Harvard's  Charles Lee, Ph.D., will be stepping up as the scientific director at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, according to a press release sent to Farmington Patch.

JAX Genomic Medicine was created in 2012 to isolate the genetic causes of diseases and spur the development treatment plans, the release said.

“I believe in the leadership, vision, and collaborative approach that The Jackson Laboratory brings to biomedical research,” Lee said of his new workplace in the release. 

“JAX Genomic Medicine will be dedicated to combining JAX’s expertise in genetics and genomics with the clinical experiences of partners in Connecticut hospitals. Together, we will develop sophisticated, precision clinical testing and usher in new treatments for cancer and other diseases for residents of Connecticut and beyond.”

Lee currently directs both the molecular genetics research unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the cytogenetics facility for the Harvard Cancer Center in Boston, according to the release.

Construction on Jackson Labs began in October 2012 at the UConn Health Center.
