Luke's Donut Shop Launches Subsidiary Pizza Business with Delivery

Many locals frequent Luke's Donut Shop for their signature fresh doughnuts and good conversation with other regulars.

Now the owner hopes to give his food business another claim to fame – pizza.

While owner Ali Masad, of New Britain, said "most people know about the pizza" that the shop has been serving for more than a year, he decided to launch Luke's Pizza, a subsidiary of Luke's donuts.

Luke's Pizza is housed in the same 395 West Avon Road storefront as the bakery side of the business. Masad took over as owner of the longtime doughnut store about 10 years ago.

Masad has extended his store hours for both the bakery and pizza side of the business. Customers have been asking for it, he said. Luke's is now open Mondays to Thursdays and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

About a month ago, Masad began offering delivery for purchases of $15 or more "so we could make a little extra money."

In addition to Italian gourmet pizza options, Masad is offering the following items on the delivery menu and in the shop – chicken tenders, mozzerella sticks, garlic bread, French fries, onion rings, Jalapeño poppers, salads, calzones, burgers, grinders and sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches. Pasta dishes and barbecue and Buffalo chicken wings are new items on the store menu, Masad said.

Masad doesn't anticipate putting a Luke's Pizza sign out front, so customers interested in eating there should still look for the Luke's Donut Shop sign.
