RESULTS: CT's Favorite Ice Cream Shop

Find out who came out on top as the best ice cream in Connecticut.

We have our personal favorites but Patch wanted to know who you, our readers, think serves the best cold scoops in the state. We asked for nominations and put up a poll on Sunday — which happened to be National Ice Cream Day — and the responses poured in.

More than 1,700 readers weighed in on their favorite ice cream shop, with Newtown’s Ferris Acres Creamery coming out on top with 263 votes (15 percent).

Rich Farm in Oxford was not far behind, with 237 votes (13.52 percent), followed by the UConn Dairy Bar with 107 votes (6.1 percent).

Over 55 percent of respondents said they would drive at least 15 miles for their favorite scoop, though almost 25 percent said they would only go 5 miles. 8.5 percent said they would drive “as far as it takes.”

We also asked about your favorite flavors.

Chocolate just barely beat out vanilla among the traditional flavors (329-318), though “Other” was the clear favorite, with 845 votes, more than chocolate, vanilla and strawberry combined.

What do you think? Is the Top 3 accurate? Did your favorite shop make the list?
