MARIAN, THE LIBRARIAN, COMING TO SIMSBURY!

INTERVIEW OF MS. MARIAN PAROO

The Theatre Guild of Simsbury is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with everyone's favorite all-American musical, "The Music Man," featuring the largest cast in recent Theatre Guild history. With over 80 people involved, there are dozens of interesting tales to be told from the cast and crew. We invite you to get to know some of them through these five-minute interviews.

Interview of Rosanne Gowdy, Marian Paroo in the Theatre Guild of Simsbury’s Production of “The Music Man:”

Q: You have a remarkable voice—you must be professionally trained…

A: I’ve had a few lessons throughout my life but honestly, no professional training. I’ve had the privilege of working with wonderful music directors and directors who have helped me grow into a talented singer and actress.

Q: The part of Marian appears to be quite demanding...

A: Yes, very demanding!! Even though I have been cast as Marian twice before, I’m learning all new blocking and choreography!

Rehearsals are scheduled three times a week but I also spend countless hours
preparing at home. Luckily for me I have a wonderful husband who helps me
rehearse lines and practice the songs!

Q: All that and you also have full-time employment?

A: (laugh) I work as an x-ray technologist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center
and absolutely love it!

Q: As an actress, are you finding additional challenges working with young children?

A: I love working with kids, they remind me of my nieces and nephews. I find they take direction very quickly and accurately! Most importantly they make me laugh and have a good time!

Q: I understand that you have several other ongoing music projects…

A: Indeed, I usually have the next project lined up and ready to go. I will be in the Marvelous Wonderettes – Caps and Gowns the musical in February with the Newington Main Stage. Also, I am a singer in the band, “The Sundance Kidz” that is the official band of “The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.” We raise money for the camp that helps children with special needs and disabilities have a real camp experience. I’m also a cantor at The Church of the Incarnation where I sing at masses every weekend and at wedding ceremonies and funerals.

The Theatre Guild of Simsbury presents THE MUSIC MAN November 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 at the Simsbury High School Auditorium.  Tickets may be purchased online at theatreguildsimsbury.org or by phone at 860-658-0666.
