6.5 Percent of Farmington Out of Work

The August statistics from the Department of Labor show 847 people cannot find jobs.

Farmington was at the low end of the spectrum for unemployment at 6.5 percent for August. Though numbers for the state's cities were higher — Hartford at 16.6 percent and New Britain at 13 — many rural areas and suburban neighbors were also higher, like Litchfield with 7.8 percent and Wethersfield with 8.4.

The town's unemployment rate has steadily decreased from January of this year, when it peaked at 7.4 percent, according to the Department of Labor. The August numbers show 847 members of the town's 13,027-person work force are without jobs.

The rest of the nation saw a slight improvement in the unemployment figures as well. Connecticut dipped .1 percent to a 9.1 percent unemployment rate. The United States did the same with a 9.2 percent rate.
