Farmington Students Win State Art Awards

Farmington Students Win Connecticut Art Education Association Scholastics Awards

Julie Sawyer, Farmington Public Schools Department Leader, Fine and Applied Arts Department has announced that Farmington students, once again, did exceptionally well at the Scholastics Art competition, which is held each year at the University of Hartford.

“We are very proud of our exceptional students and the teachers who inspire them!” Sawyer said.

The 22nd Annual CT Regional Scholastic Art Awards were presented at a ceremony at the University of Hartford on January 30.

The students' work will be on display in the Silpe Gallery at the Hartford Art School through February 10th.

“Our students competed with peers in over 140 Connecticut schools, some of which are arts magnet schools. Over 1,700 artworks were submitted and reviewed by a panel of 30 judges made up of professional artists and university art faculty,” she explained.

Winners of the gold key award will have their artwork submitted to the National Level Scholastic Art Awards jury. This national jury will choose works for exhibit in the National Show held in June.

Special honors were received by Megan Gombatz, who won the CAEA/Arnini Best in Ceramics award and Vishruthi Palanivel, who won the Canton Clay Works Best in Ceramics class scholarship. 

The artwork is on display at the Silpe Gallery, Hartford Art School, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave,, West Hartford until February 10.

Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends.
