Fatal Accident Closes I-84 East in West Hartford, Rte. 4, 9 Onramps
Accident occurred around 11 a.m.; investigation still underway.
UPDATE: 3:20 p.m. Two left lanes have now been reopened on I-84 east.
A fatal acccident between exits 39A and 40 has closed I-84 east in West Hartford.
A breaking news dispatch service is reporting that a tractor trailer struck a pole and is down an embankment. The accident happened at approximately 11 a.m. A number of other vehicles were reportedly also involved in the crash.

According to reports, other surrounding routes are also closed, including Route 4 east where it connects to I-84 east, and Route 9 north where it connects to I-84 east. Traffic is also backed up on I-84 west and other nearby roads.
The highway is not expected to open before rush hour this evening.
