Flood Warning Issued for Area

Farmington River is expected to reach flood stage later this afternoon, affecting low-lying areas of Farmington, Avon, East Granby and Simsbury.

After a windy thunderstorm knocked out power to some residents and dropped 2-3 inches of rain on the Farmington Valley, the National Weather Service is warning of potential flooding.

The weather service issued a flood warning for the Farmington River in Simsbury through Friday evening. At 11:30 a.m., the river was at 10.7 feet; flood stage is 12 feet. Minor flooding is expected by late afternoon, with the level continuing to rise to more than 13 feet by midnight.

Flooding is predicted at Old Farms and Tolliston Roads in Avon, Nod Road, Riverside and Terrys Plain Roads in Simsbury, as well as Route 315. Waters are already rising over Meadow Road in Farmington.

In Simsbury, flooding is expected to spread into Plantation Country Club and approach the Paine Boathouse. In East Granby, flooding is already affecting low-lying areas.
