Friends Ready for Book Sale

Kids, Crafts and Cookbooks to be offered in the lobby today.

Friends of the Farmington Library is hosting its annual book sale today between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the main branch lobby. The sale's theme is Kids, Crafts and Cookbooks.

An abundance of books for children of all ages is available, including board books, "I Can Read" and Golden Books. Craft books on painting, needlecraft and other arts, as well as a large array of cookbooks will be offered. The Friends also have several boxes of large-print books and trade paperback fiction — some brand new or hardly used.

The books are donated to the library throughout the year and sold during a few book sales. A larger sale is held in April, but some, like the large-print books, are too good to hold onto until then, Linda Chapron explained, as she sorted materials for the sale.

"They're so expensive and so hard to find, we wanted to make them available now," she said. Chapron estimates more than 3,000 books will be offered.

The sales are good for book lovers and library-goers alike. Beyond getting reading materials into new hands, the book sale helps to support the library. The Friends use sale profits to fund children's programming, museum passes, purchase of new books and helping the library acquire new technologies beyond its budget.
