Why go: The show stars Farmington High School actors and musicians performing the story about a British orphan through dance, song and some sophisticated British accents.

Where/When: Simsbury High School Auditorium, 34 Farms Village Rd, Simsbury, March 19 (7:30 p.m.) and 20 (2 p.m.)

Why Go: Princess Ida is a comic opera by Gilbert & Sullivan written in 1884 that satirizes feminism, women’s education, and Darwinian evolution, which were controversial topics in conservative Victorian England.  The Princess opens a women’s university and teaches that women are superior to men and should rule in their stead. Disguised as women, the prince (to whom the princess had been married in infancy) and two of his buddies sneak into the school to try to collect his bride.  They are soon discovered and all soon face a literal war between the sexes.

Pricing: $24 adults, $19 seniors/students, $8 children

Come See Our Bloomers! Show & Sale

Where/When: Saturday noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at West Hartford Meeting and Conference Center, located at 50 South Main St., West Hartford

Why go: The Nutmeg State Orchid Society's is hosting the show and sale to educate the public about orchids. See hundreds of orchids in bloom, purchase choice plants and works of art and learn about growing orchids by speaking with growers and members.

Pricing: Free admission

Mogul Competition

Where/When: Ski Sundown, 126 Ratlum Rd, New Hartford, March 19 from 8 a.m.–6 p.m.

Why go: Bring your helmet and come participate in this competition at Ski Sundown in New Hartford. Registration is from 8am to 12:30pm. First place winners in each category will win $1,000 each. Second place winners in each category will win $500 each.

Pricing: $25 entry fee

Drumming About You

Where, When: Roaring Brook Nature Center, 70 Gracey Rd, Canton, March 20, 1:30 p.m.–2:30 p.m.

Why go: Come to the Roaring Brook Nature Center for this interactive drumming concert with Bob Bloom. Open to all.

Pricing: $8 for members; $9 for nonmembers.
