Victim of Route 6 Accident Identified as Southington Man

Road reopened at 8:50 a.m.

Police have identified a pedestrian killed by an oncoming car on Route 6 this morning as Aurthur Walker, 83, of Southington.

According to police, Walker stopped his car in the shoulder just east of Hyde Road, got out and walked into the westbound lane, where he was hit by a 1989 Ford Mustang at about 5:45 a.m.

Walker was treated by emergency personnel and he was taken to John Dempsey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was identified as Diego Sanchez, 57, of Hartford. He was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

The North Central Accident Reconstruction Team remains on scene for further investigation. They will interview the driver and a witness to the accident and examine both vehicles, Lt. Marshall Porter said.

The accident forced police to close Route 6 until 8:50 a.m.

Police have already identified one witness, but anyone with additional information is asked to call Sergeant Walzak or Officer Stone at 860-675-2400.
