West District Gets March Madness for Reading

West District School celebrated March Madness for Reading in a big way this year under the direction of the school's new librarian, Jessica Lodge.

The school community kicked off the month-long celebration with Dr. Seuss' birthday and World Read Aloud Day with Dr. Suess-themed activities, guest readers, and a book swap.

In between, readers did their best to keep track of all their reading time at school and at home, with a school goal of 1 million minutes read in a month. Classes tracked their progress on a rainbow on the front hallway bulletin board. This is the last week to tally minutes.

Mid-month, students and teachers alike dressed up as their favorite book character and spent the day sharing their characters and their books.

The school finished the month with a school-wide Breakfast, Blankets and Books morning. Students and teachers were invited to wear PJs and bring a blanket or book buddy to school. All the classes joined together to read in the cafeteria first thing in the morning before heading back to their classes for breakfast.
