What's Open/Closed on Labor Day

A general listing of business and municipal closings.

September 5 is a federal, state, and local holiday in observance of Labor Day. State and local government offices are closed but some retail businesses are open:

  • : Closed
  • Farmington Schools administrative offices: Closed
  • Banks: Closed
  • U.S. Post Offices: Closed
  • State Government Offices: Closed
  • State courts: Closed
  • Connecticut Department of Labor TeleBenefits Call Centers: Closed for initial claims. Automated telephone and internet system for filing unemployment insurance continued claims will be available.
  • Liquor stores: Closed
  • Supermarkets: Most Open
  • Retail stores: Most Open

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced that admission to state parks and beaches will be free for the Labor Day weekend. Some parks and beaches, however, are still closed due to storm damage. A an updated list of open parks can be found at www.ct.gov/Irene.
