Alcohol at Your Holiday Party & Your Liability

Your holiday party could be lots of fun with a little more bubbly, but if your guest gets into a fender-bender after leaving, you could be liable. Umbrella Insurance might be a good option.

The holidays are a time to enjoy the wonderful company of friends and family and, sometimes, there are some types of beverages that can really “spice things up”.

For those of you who like to bring a little extra to your parties by serving alcoholic drinks, there is something you and your guests need to know. Should one of your guests drive away from your party after drinking alcohol and then get involved in a car accident, you could be liable—yes, you read that correctly; you could be liable.

In the event that you are deemed liable for such an event, in most cases, the liability coverage on your current homeowners policy might not be enough to protect you from loss. It is a very good idea to talk to your insurance agent about the additional liability coverage that comes with an Umbrella Insurance policy. Your typical Umbrella Insurance policy would give you liability coverage that goes above and beyond the limits of the liability coverage on your current home insurance policy, and thus protect your assets.
