Coat, Hat, Gloves and Toiletries Drive to help local homeless during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
The
sixth, seventh and eighth graders at the First Church 1652 in Farmington are building a Tent City in front of the church to bring attention to homelessness in our greater community and to kick off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Nov 16-24, 2013.
The kids will create a Tent City to sleep in on
November 16th to raise awareness about the issue. Using cardboard, tarps, and old tents, the
children will build a shelter for the evening, and they will take turns
sleeping in the Ugly Quilts they made. It will be cold, and the children are committed to understanding what it’s like to be homeless for one night.
One of the service activities the children are participating in over the course of the night is a warm coat and toiletries drive. These items can be donated to First Church
1652 anytime up until Sunday morning.
