The Honorable David M. Walker, currently CEO of Come Back
America Initiative and the author of three books with the most recent entitled
“Comeback America” spoke candidly in a recent interview with CT Valley Views
Host, Susan Regan at The CT Historical Society. As the former Comptroller
General of the United States and Head of the Government Accountability Office
(GAO) from 1998 to 2008 and appointed as the Chief Auditor by President Bill
Clinton, he served during both Democratic and Republican Presidents’ tenures
clearly demonstrating a commanding respect from both administrations.
Quoting from an April 2013 published Hartford Courant
article, Mr. Walker stated that Connecticut’s ship of state is taking on water
and is on a hazardous course. Its finances and competitive posture are in poor
shape. We need to change course.”
Further underpinning these concerns is a report, which has
been released from The Comeback Initiative and co-authored with the Connecticut
Center for Economic Analysis at the University of CT. The report “Connecticut
at Risk: Will the State Navigate to Prosperity” outlines the nonpartisan
specifics about what lead to Connecticut’s respective ranking and the tactics
needed to achieve future success.
