Introduction to Memoir Writing with Ann Sheybani

On Thursday, July 25, the Farmington Libraries welcome back writer and motivational speaker, Ann Sheybani, for an introduction to memoir writing. This session will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the main library at 6 Monteith Drive.

Memoirists, unlike fiction writers, do not want to tell a story.  They want to tell it all—the all of personal experience, of consciousness itself.  They wish to tell their mind.

So, how is it done? These are the other, more specific questions beginning writers ask about memoir: Who cares about my life story? Do I have to include the tough parts? How close do I have to stick to the truth? How can I write about family or friends without hurting them? How can I faithfully reconstruct a conversation that took place ten years ago? Where should I begin? How much back-story is necessary?

This introduction to memoir writing is free and open to the public.
