Sweet Adelines – Women's Barbershop Singing Performance

On Tuesday, October 22, the Farmington Libraries will host the Farmington Valley Chorus for a performance of a cappella style songs sang in the barbershop tradition. This event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the main library at 6 Monteith Drive.

The Farmington Valley Chorus (FVC) is a membership organization of female singers who sing a cappella four-part harmony in the barbershop style.  After World War II, barbershop singing was growing increasingly popular for men. In 1945, a small group of women wanted to participate in the chord-ringing, fun-filled harmony that the men were singing, so these women organized "Sweet Adelines in America." From its humble beginnings in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sweet Adelines International, as it is now called, has grown to a membership of almost 30,000 women in countries all across the globe, of which the FVC is a part. For more information about the Farmington Valley Chorus, visit their web site at: http://www.singfvc.org/

This event is free and open to the public. Advanced registration is required for the program. Please register in advance by calling the library at 860-673-6791 or visiting the library’s web site at http://www.farmingtonlibraries.org

This event is made possible by Richard P. Garmany through a grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Farmington Libraries will be hosting a variety of performances throughout the year as part of the Richard P. Garmany music series.

The Farmington Library is part of the Farmington Village Green and Library Association.  If you have special needs to attend library programs, contact the library in advance.
