Ten Feet Off the Ground: The Music of the Sherman Brothers

On Sunday, March 23, the Farmington Libraries will host the trio, CabareT, for a fun family concert entitled, “Ten Feet Off the Ground: The Music of the Sherman Brothers.” This event will take place at 2:00 PM at the Main Library at 6 Monteith Drive.

The songwriting team of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman wrote more motion picture scores than any other songwriting team in film history and composed more than 150 songs for Disney films, TV shows, and theme parks. In this musical review, Michael P. Cartwright and Sheri Ziccardi, with Paul Feyer, music director/pianist, will entertain cabaret-goers with tunes from the Sherman Brother scores for Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Jungle Book, and many other favorite movie and stage musicals. A sampling of the well-known songs written by the prolific brothers includes “It’s a Small World” (the world’s most translated song), “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Let’s Get Together,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Feed the Birds,” “Bare Necessities,” and a medley of DisneyWorld and Disneyland attractions theme songs.

Michael Cartwright has a magnificent vocal range and a gift for storytelling. Local audiences have enjoyed his performances at Goodspeed Musicals, River Rep, Summer Theatre of New Canaan, and Ivoryton Playhouse. Cartwright also has appeared in productions at Arden Theatre in Philadelphia and Delaware Theatre Company. He made his New York debut at the famous cabaret landmark Don’t Tell Mama and studied at the Yale Cabaret Conference.

Sheri Ziccardi has appeared on musical theatre stages and as a concert and cabaret soloist throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Known for her soaring soprano and at home singing anything from standards and show tunes to classical and sacred music, the 2011 Connecticut BroadwayWorld and National Youth Theatre Award Nominee returned this year as soloist for the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s annual POPS concert and will be seen as Sally in Die Fledermaus with Hartt Opera Theatre in early 2013.

Seating is limited and advanced registration is required for the program. Please register by calling the library at 860-673-6791 or using this link.

This event is made possible by Richard P. Garmany through a grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Farmington Libraries will be hosting a variety of performances throughout the year as part of the Richard P. Garmany music series.
