Amy Suffredini - Democrat for 1st District Town Council

I’m Amy Suffredini and I’m a member of the Farmington Town Council, representing Farmington’s First District.  It has been an absolute pleasure and honor to serve on the Town Council, and I would very much like to continue my role.

As part of my service on the Town Council, I serve as the liaison to the Town Planning and Zoning Commission, and Human Relations Commission.  I am also a member of  UCONN Health Center Committee, Stepehen A. Flis  Scholarship Committee, and the UCONN Department of Corrections Operations Monitoring Committee.

I am an attorney, and began my career as a criminal prosecutor in New York City.  For the past several years, I have been a local Farmington businesswoman working in real estate.  As part of my business I specialize in helping Seniors sell their homes.

I also am an active Farmington volunteer.  I serve or have served as a Board member for the Stanley-Whitman House, Farmington Village Green and Library Association (FVGLA) and Farmington Public School Foundation

On a personal note, I am married to Brian, and we have 2 children – an 8th grader at IAR and a 5th grader at West Woods.   Our family loves being part of the extraordinary Farmington community, and regularly enjoy the Farmington Greenway, Farmington River, the many hiking trails, mini-golf, Winding Trails and the outstanding museums.

In June Hartford Magazine ranked Farmington as the best mid-size town in the Greater Hartford area.  Now this was no surprise to me -- I know how special Farmington is – its excellent schools, top-notch police department, incredibly dedicated volunteer fire department, and its many recreational, natural and historic gems . . . not to mention the most affordable tax rate of comparable towns.

As a Town Council member my goal is to keep Farmington outstanding, while carefully keeping my focus on smart and efficient financial policies that keep our taxes affordable for all residents.

I supported and voted for a budget that maintains and invests in our schools, services and infrastructure, while decreasing the average tax-payer property taxes.

I provided leadership in identifying opportunities to get Farmington the “biggest bang for its buck”.  I am very aware that the money that comes to the town comes from our hard working residents.  As a Council member, one of my most important jobs is to carefully analyze how the town spends its funds, and to ensure it is the most cost efficient way.

I have worked tirelessly to assist Farmington residents with their personal concerns. You can always count on me to listen to your concerns, take necessary action – reaching across the party lines, if needed – and try to find solutions to your problems.

I also have championed policies that keep Farmington businesses in Farmington and encouraged targeted new business growth.    Approximately 1/3 of our town budget is paid for by the business community.  The Farmington business community enables the town to properly invest in our services and infrastructure while keeping taxes affordable.

Finally, I’ve supported policies that protect, preserve and celebrate Farmington’s natural and historic gems.  These gems, which make our town so unique, need to be taken care of, and I look for opportunities to do that.  Recently, I voted for extensions of Farmington’s Greenway path, and open space acquisitions along the Farmington River.

In short, it has been my distinct privilege to serve on the Farmington Town Council, and if elected for a second term, I will continue to provide energetic and focused leadership to keep Farmington one of the best places to live and educate our children.

On November 5 VOTE FOR Amy Suffredini for Town Council!
