Brian FX Connolly - Democrat for 1st District Town Council

My name is Brian FX Connolly, and I am a candidate for the Farmington Town Council in the First District. As an involved and passionate Farmington resident for more than 16 years, I have the municipal and business experience to be a valuable member of the Council, and your representative. Three key qualifications that have prepared me to serve as your representative are as follows:

·         Serving on the Farmington Economic Development Commission since 2007, and as vice-chair since 2009. I created the Farmington Business Brochure and developed the EDC Business Communications Plan generating new business outreach and economic development for Farmington.

·         Appointed to the Batterson Park Development Joint Advisory Committee (Hartford/Farmington), to determine a mutually beneficial use and development for the property along the Fienemann Road exit on I-84. This is a tax revenue-generating endeavor.

·         Thirteen-year business owner, currently working in Farmington for a business-to-business marketing firm. My job is to help technology companies grow. I bring a level of business expertise that would be beneficial to Farmington during this unprecedented time of development opportunity.

Our town is uniquely positioned for economic growth without overdevelopment that would encroach on our historic, rural community. And with prudent management, Farmington can benefit. With the building of The Jackson Laboratory, and the additional wing of the UCONN Medical Center, new businesses need to be established in the bio-science corridor that will both support their business interests, and increase our tax base. Careful economic development is critical and must be done now, as construction of these facilities continue. And with these new businesses will come new residents.

I want Farmington to be the #1 choice for both residents and businesses. This reasonable growth will keep our diverse community strong and vibrant, while maintaining it’s elegant rural charm and profound historic culture. That will happen if we:

·         keep our mill rate low,

·         provide a business-friendly environment for new and established businesses,

·         continue to provide a quality educational system (which strengthens our community and our property values), and

·         maintain our quality of life and town services for all residents, while preserving the distinct character of our town.

And that is my focus.

On a personal note, my wife, Denise, and I have been married for 19 years, and have two daughters. Caitlin, is a graduate of Farmington High, and is a freshman at UCONN, and Shannon is a sophomore at FHS. My parents also live in town, so you can see why my interests range from the schoolyard to the Senior Center.  Many of you know me from Town Hall, or from the Library Board of Trustees, or from coaching girls travel soccer, or St. Patrick Church, or the March of Dimes March for Babies at CCSU. Or possibly from any number of school and community events we’ve supported over the years. Needless to say, we are all a part of the fabric of Farmington. So, if you see me around town, please say hello, and let me know what’s on your mind.

I look forward to bringing my experience and passion to the Farmington Town Council, and to representing your interests. And I ask for your vote this November 5th. Thank you.
